Five Ways to Better Communication

KIDS (National Development Department [NDD] Training Unit) who have 42 years experience in disabled children and young people's services are running Better Communication course. 9.30am - 4.00pm, 12th March 2010, Room 4, Vassell Centre, Fishponds, Bristol, BS16 2QQ. Refreshment from 9.00am. It is for providers of short break services for disabled children and young people (in range of settings and in the community) and parents/carers or Personal Assistants. It is intended to help and enable providers of short break services and parents to communicate with disabled children and young people, whether in a service context or private. By the end of the session participants will: Have developed their own communication book 'All About Me' and reflected on the process, Recognise the importance of giving and receiving feedback, Examined the role of a PA supporting a child with communication impairments, Be able to share and understand language and terms that are acceptable and respectful to disabled children, young people and their families, Participated in a range of games and activities and know ways of adapting them, Identify action points they can take away and implement particularly focussed on communication in order to improve inclusion for children with communication impairments, State where and how they find Bristol based resources and support. The course is free of charge. There are a maximum of 22 places and it is booked on a first come first served basis. BDA's Annual Funders Fayre

Tuesday 23rd March 2010, 9.30am - 3.30pm at Salvation Army Community Centre, Hassell Drive, Lawrence Hill, Bristol, BS2 0AN. Improve your chances of getting funding! Playing With Mathematics

Playing with mathematics, problem solving: problem posing, learn how to bring maths alive. Thursday 29th April 2010, College Green Centre, City of Bristol College. This conference will demonstrate and explore the imaginative connection between mathematics and story. The need for a cross curricular approach will be analysed and the value of engaging with practical materials will be explored through lectures and practical workshops.
Aims of the day:
1. Demonstrate and explore the imaginative connection between mathematics and story

3. Explore the value of engaging with practical materials
4. Understand ways of bringing mathematics alive

Really Wild Activity Sessions from Avon Wildlife Trust

Fun and educational environmental activities for childrens groups; ideal for holiday play schemes, after school clubs, woodcraft folk, brownies and cubs. Activities available at Willsbridge Mill Education Centre, Willsbridge Hill, Bristol BS30 6EX Can also take place at your venue or your local nature reserve. Choose from one of their suggestions, or let them know your theme.
